Melvin Mackins Sr., 83, of Union City died June 22, 2010, at Union City Manor Nursing and Rehab.
Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at New Hope Free Will Baptist Church in Union City, with the Rev. Ron Smith officiating. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gregory Reaves, Anthony Sturdivant, S.J. Burnett, Maurice Stricklin, Leroy Stricklin and Willie Williams.
Friends may call at the church from noon until the hour of services Sunday. Rawls Funeral Home in Union City is in charge of arrangements.
He was born May 26, 1927, in Hickman, Ky., son of the late Robert and Lucy (Yates) Mackins. He was a retired employee of the City of Union City, who had worked in the water department, and he had also been employed at Rainbow Cleaners in Union City. He was a member of New Hope Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Minola (Cross) Mackins, whom he married Oct. 15, 1949; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Dorothy “Doris” and Gene Warsaw of Indianapolis, Nora Mackins of Union City, Imogene Mathis of Chattanooga and Rita and Lee Davis of St. Louis; his son, Melvin Mackins Jr. of Indianapolis; his sister, Betty Massey of Detroit; two brothers, Charles Mackins and Alvin Mackins, both of Hickman; and 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
