|In back-to-back special-called meetings, the City of Dresden Board of Mayor and Aldermen discussed the FY 2010-11 budget and credit card payment proposals on Monday afternoon. |
The first meeting of the afternoon yielded a 4-2 passing vote of the budget with aldermen Donnie Essary and Joyce Hurt casting negative votes.
The passing of the budget had been previously tabled due to state funds not being received.
After the budget meeting, a committee of aldermen Essary, Jake Bynum and Dick Tidwell as well as City Recorder Jennifer Branscum and Mayor Danny Forrester met to discuss credit card payment proposals.
The committee was formed at the June monthly board meeting after board members heard three reports from three different financial institutions.
Weighing pros and cons of proposals made by First State Bank, BancorpSouth and Advanced Payments, Tidwell expressed interest in finding out more information relating to a telephone-based system and proposed talking to a city or business that utilizes it.
The committee will meet again at 5:30 p.m. on July 12, 30 minutes prior to the regular July monthly meeting, to discuss findings and decide on a recommendation to bring before the board.
