Central FCE Club met Wednesday, June 9, at Cavi’s Restaurant in Gleason with 15 members and two visitors attending.
The meeting opened with the “Thought for the Day” read by President Jerry Sea- mans. “There’s something like a gold thread running through a man’s words when he talks to his daughter, and gradually over the years it gets to be long enough for you to pick up in your hands and weave into a cloth that feels like love itself,” by John Gregory Brown. She also welcomed our guests Agent Beverly Shelby and her summer intern, Lacy Arnold.
The devotional was given by Elsie Smith, and Gladys Simmons led us in singing “You Are My Sunshine.” Celebrating a birthday this month is Caffie Ross. All joined in the Pledge to the Flag and reading of the Club Collect.
Cards of thanks from Robert and Jessie Mansfield, Dyersburg Regional Clinic and Union City Baptist Hospital were read. Jerry reminded everyone of the 50th wedding anniversary reception for Jim and Pat Calhoun on June 27 at the First Union Methodist Church in Union City from 2-5 p.m.
A power point presentation was given by Lacy Arnold. Agent Shelby said that volunteers are needed to help with basic sewing skills for the 4-H regional program on July 26. Gladys Simmons and Brenda Winstead volunteered.
President Seamans announced that July 1 is the due date for the Creative Writing Entries and Best of the Best nominations. The County Council meeting has been changed to July 8. Amy Tuck will be the speaker. We were reminded to bring We Care items for youth to the July club meeting.
Gladys Simmons gave us lots of useful information concerning “Fall Prevention” as she presented the program. The meeting was adjourned with the quote:,“He didn’t tell me how to live; he lived and let me watch him do it,”Clarence Budington Kelland.
Our next meeting will be July 14.
