Another heat death reported in Shelby Co. Posted: Friday, June 25, 2010 8:02 pm MEMPHIS (AP) — Another heat-related death has been reported in Memphis as the area continues to deal with scorching temperatures and high humidity. The Memphis/Shelby County Health Department says an 88-year-old man was found dead in his north Memphis home Wednesday. Officials say there was an air conditioning unit in the home, but it was not working. Heat exposure has been ruled a contributing factor in the death. It’s the third heat-related death this year in Shelby County. All have come in a span of about a month. The heat index has hovered around 100 degrees for several consecutive days in Memphis, which is under a heat advisory. Heat index combines air temperature and humidity to reflect how hot it feels.
