UTM students place in Miss Tenn. pageant

The Press 6.24.10 University of Tennessee at Martin students claimed honors in the 2010 Miss Tennessee Pageant. Hannah-Wade Powell was fourth runnerup, Taren Hatcher was among the semifinalists, and Loren Dean, Miss Tennessee Soybean Festival won the Tennessee Miracle Maker Award for raising the most money for the Children’s Miracle Network. The weeklong competition ended Saturday night at the Carl Perkins Civic Center in Jackson.
Powell, of Alamo, Miss Rhythm of Nashville, also won the swimsuit competition Wednesday night. She is a former Miss Tennessee Pageant top 10 finalist in 2009 and semifinalist in 2008 and a former Miss Tennessee Soybean Festival in 2009. Powell, 21, is a criminal justice major.
Hatcher, of Greenfield, Miss UT Martin, was among the 12 semifinalists announced at Saturday night’s competition. Hatcher, 20, is an education major.
Dean, 19, of Brighton, is a student at Mississippi State University.
“These young ladies did exceptionally well as they represented our university and community with outstanding spirit. I feel like it is a true honor for UT Martin to be represented so well, and we are forming a great name for ourselves throughout the state,” said Hollie Holt, Miss UT Martin/Miss Tennessee Soybean Festival Pageant director.
