A Union City man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after allegedly cutting his wife with a knife.
Union City police responded to a call at the emergency room of Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City on Wednesday around 11:30 p.m.
Joy Denise Winters, 42, of 1415 East Church St., Union City, reported that she and her husband, Lawrence Winters, 46, of the same address, were arguing when he pulled out a small knife and cut her.
She said he had been gone several days and they got into an argument about his alleged drug abuse and stealing. She said when she remarked that she wouldn’t have to put up with it much longer because their divorce was almost final, she said he told her the only way she was getting a divorce was if she were dead, at which time he allegedly attempted to stab her with the knife.
The report states the officer did see a small cut on her left arm as well as other abrasions, a scratch on her back, a hole cut in her shirt and blood on her shirt.
Lawrence Winters was arrested on Saturday.
