Titans score four draftees Posted: Wednesday, June 16, 2010 12:06 pm NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have started agreeing to terms with their draft picks, reaching deals on multi-year contracts with cornerback Alterraun Verner and safety Myron Rolle — the Rhodes scholar. The Titans announced the deals Tuesday with the first of their 11 draft picks. A few hours later, they announced deals with both of their seventh-round draft picks in Montana receiver Marc Mariani and defensive lineman David Howard of Brown. Verner is their fourth-round pick at 104th overall. Rolle was the last pick in the sixth round at No. 207 overall. The cornerback had 13 interceptions with four returned for touchdowns at UCLA. He also had three forced fumbles and two fumbles recovered in four seasons. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Rolle spent 2009 season studying at Oxford, which he believes dropped his draft status. He had 62 tackles and defended five passes in 13 games as a junior in 2008. Mariani set career records at Montana for yards receiving with 3,018, touchdown receptions (29) and career all-purpose yards with 5,441. He also averaged 15.1 yards per punt return and 27.6 yards on kickoff returns. The 6-3, 293-pound Howard was the Titans’ final draft pick at 241st overall. A two-time All-Ivy League pick, he originally walked onto the Howard football team after being recruited as a track and field athlete. None |
