Mrs. Gwendoline Gardner Alexander, 99, of Martin, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at VanAyer Manor Nursing Home, Martin.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at Murphy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Franklin Gardner and Rev. David Brown officiating. Burial was in Gardner Cemetery, Martin.
Joe Fuqua, Max Walker, Jimmy Usrey, Dwayne Patterson, Johnny Tuck and James Myrick served as pallbearers.
Mrs. Alexander was born May 21, 1911 in Weakley County, daughter of Claude and Cora Estelle Nowlin Gardner. She was the widow of Virgle Alexander. She was retired from Brown Shoe Company and a charter member of Southside Baptist Church, Martin.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Brooxie and Billy Simpson of Martin; one sister, Cornelia Ortmann of Martin; two grandchildren, Barry and Debbie Simpson of Jackson, Dennis and Tammi Simpson of Martin; five great-grandchildren, Brent Simpson, Kayla Simpson, Conner Simpson, Jeff Ragan and Lauren and Eric Voorhees; and two great-great-grandchildren, Taylor Ragan and Chandler Ragan.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Claude J. Gardner, James Franklin Gardner and George Lee Gardner; and one sister, Virginia Louise Hester.
