Billy Richard Reeves, 72, of Troy died June 10, 2010, at his home.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday at Strong Funeral Home in Hickman, Ky., with the Rev. Henry Callison officiating. He has donated his body to the Forensic Anthropology Center at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville for educational and research purposes.
The family will receive friends from noon until the hour of services Sunday at the funeral home.
The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the Shriners Hospital for Children.
He was born in Hickman and attended the former Western School in the Lower Bottom area of Fulton County, Ky. He became a river boat captain in 1963, working for Warfield Towing and Weathers Towing of Greenville, Miss., and later for Bunge Towing of Greenville. At Bunge, he was promoted to marine superintendent until his retirement in 2006.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Vanessa Reeves of Metropolis, Ill.; his granddaughter and her husband, Kelly and Nate MacLean of Smyrna; his great-granddaughter, Ella Riley MacLean; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Jesse Reeves of Plymouth, Mich., and Bobby and Betty Reeves of Hickman; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Betty and L.E. Baggett of Union City, Barbara and Jimmy Barber of South Fulton, Nyoka Craddock and Richard Gouger of Hickman and Elizabeth Atwill of Crutchfield, Ky.; his uncle, Bill Everett of Hickman; and 17 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Riley and Charlotte Reeves; his wife, Bonnie Reeves; two sisters, Jeanette Warner and Nancy Rice; and his brother, Jimmy Reeves.
