MARY BRUCE HONORED — Exchange Street Church of Christ in Union City recently hosted World Bible School President John Reese (left). While visiting with the congregation, Reese and Exchange Street elder Jimmy Jones presented long-time World Bible School teacher Mary Wallace Bruce with a plaque which read: “In honor of Mary Bruce for her 50 years as a Bible correspondence course teacher and her 14 years as Ministry Leader for World Bible School at Exchange Street Church of Christ, on WBS/Missions Sunday, May 16, 2010.” Mrs. Bruce started teaching correspondence courses in 1960, along with her late husband, E.R. Bruce. In 1973, the Bruces heard about the World Bible School program. Mrs. Bruce took the course herself before starting to teach it to others. In 1995, at the age of 75, she became the ministry leader for WBS at Exchange Street Church of Christ. She held the position until January 2010, when the handed the reins over to Gayle Blackley. Over the years, Mrs. Bruce has taught thousands of students the Bible using the WBS correspondence courses and she continues as a teacher today.
