PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) — Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area is filled with cemeteries, former homesteads and interesting archaeological sites.
Now, the U.S. Forest Service is finalizing a plan to preserve historical sites and decide which ones deserve protection in the future.
The Paducah Sun reports that the plan is shaped according to the National Historic Preservation Act.
Archaeologist Jamie Bennett, LBL heritage program manager, said concerns for physical features or artifacts linked to the people and culture of the area pick up as lately as 50 years ago, when the Tennessee Valley Authority took over the area, and go back to ancient times.
