James A. “Jim” Carter Sr., 73, of Clinton, Ky., died 5:35 a.m. June 7, 2010, at Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield, Ky. He was the brother of Bobby Carter of Union City.
Services were set for 1 p.m. today at Brown Funeral Home in Clinton, with the Rev. Rocky James officiating. Burial was to follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Kentucky.
The family requests that memorials be made to New Harmony Baptist Church, 73 Brent Road, Clinton, KY 42031.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a mechanic and a member of New Harmony Baptist Church.
Survivors also include his wife, Mattie (Massey) Carter; two daughters, Wanda Lyn Carter of Florida and Sharma Lea Wheeler of Clinton; two sons, James A. Carter Jr. of Florida and Aaron Brice Carter of Montana; four other brothers, Bill Carter of St. Louis, Johnny Carter of the Cayce (Ky.) community, Ed Carter of Clinton and Tommy Carter of Missouri; two sisters, Barbara Hopper and Joanie Cruce, both of Cayce; and seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Earl and Hazel Louise (Hopper) Carter, and his brother and two sisters.
