FEMA registration deadline for assistance approaching Posted: Monday, June 7, 2010 9:04 pm By: NASHVILLE NASHVILLE — The deadline to register for federal assistance, as a result of Tennessee’s severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding between April 30 and May 18, is July 6. The Federal Emergency Management Agency re-minds Tennesseans in the counties designated for assistance that they may apply online anytime at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362 or 800-462-7585 for those with speech and hearing disabilities. The helpline operates from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and assistance is available in all languages. If you have received a U.S. Small Business Administration disaster loan application for physical damages, it must be completed and returned to SBA by July 6 to be eligible for other federal assistance. As you begin to recover from the floods, insurance may not meet all your needs. Federal assistance from FEMA may help with expenses insurance does not cover, so register with FEMA even if you have insurance. If you have had an initial FEMA inspection of your property and you disagree with the findings, you may appeal the decision by calling the FEMA helpline for instructions on the appeal process, at 800-621-3362 or 800-462-7585 for those with speech and hearing disabilities. Appeals may also be filed by visiting a Disaster Recovery Center. To find the center nearest you, go to https://asd.fema.gov/inter/locator/drcLocator.jsp. Published in The Messenger 6.7.10 |
