Barry Keith Burton, 61, of Memphis died June 3, 2010. He was the son-in-law of James E. Elam of Union City.
A memorial service is planned for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Canale Funeral Directors at 2700 Union Extended in Memphis. Friends may call there from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday.
The family requests that memorials be made to UT Cancer Institute or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.
He was born May 16, 1949, and was a 1967 graduate of Walnut Ridge High School in Columbus, Ohio. He attended Ohio State University, Murray (Ky.) State University and the former Memphis State University, majoring in business administration.
He married the former Betty Elam July 2, 1983. She survives.
He had retired as a Fed Ex manager in 2003 after two decades of service.
Survivors also include his father, James Keith Burton; two daughters and his son-in-law, Deanna Lynn and Larry Jarrell of Louisville, Ky., and Hailey Nicole Burton of Memphis; three grandchildren, Connor Jarrell, Kraig Jarrell and Krista Jarrell; his sister, Kay Ann DeCaro of Cordova; his niece, Paige DeCaro of Atlanta; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mark and Mary Beth Elam; his nephew, Shad Elam; his uncle, Les Burton; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Eva (Youngblood) Burton; and his sister, Jamie Kay Burton.
