Wynridge scramble
goes to scorecard

The team of Bim Barker, Parks Barker, Brandon Burk, J.D. Stephens and Ike Peel combined to shoot a 9-under-par and win the weekly men’s scramble via a scorecard playoff at Wynridge Greens in Troy Thursday.
Meanwhile, the combination of David Donnell, Danny Arnold, Sidney Chappell, Bobby Chappell, David Blincoe and Larry Baker got second place with a like score.
Wynridge Greens holds its weekly men’s scramble every Thursday.

UTM women’s team
adds Mt. Juliet alum

Former Mt. Juliet standout Taylor Hall has signed a basketball scholarship to play for UT Martin women’s coach Kevin McMillan.
Hall, who is transferring from Roane State Community College, will join a roster that includes 12 newcomers and two junior college players. She also is one of 14 players on the roster from Tennessee.
This past season as a sophomore at Roane State, she saw action in 22 games, averging 14.5 points per outing.
As a freshman, Hall averaged 12.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game and led the team in assists with 4.5 per game.

H’man ladies event
goes down to wire

The Hickman County Country Club’s Ladies League played on Thursday night.  
The team of Linda Moore, Liz Roberts, Cathy Hall and Beverly Yates won with a 1-over-par.
Meanwhile, the combination of Janis Garrigan, LeeAnn Gantt, Charlotte Hall and Joyce Bell got second place via a scorecard playoff with a 2-over.
Hall had the closest shot to the pin on No. 8.

Austin Peay trackster
has sportsmanship

Austin Peay senior track and field student-athlete Carrie Burggraf has been selected as the recipient of the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Steve Hamilton Sportsmanship Award.
 It is the second year in a row Burggraf has been honored with the award, a first in conference history.
The award is given annually to an Ohio Valley Conference male or female student-athlete who best exemplifies the characteristics of the late Morehead State student-athlete, coach and administrator Steve Hamilton.
UT Martin’s Paij Lintz (softball) was nominated for the award.

OVC baseball trio
honored by Slugger

Three Ohio Valley Conference baseball players have been named to the Louisville Slugger All-American Team.
Tennessee Tech’s Chad Oberacker was a first-team selection, Tennessee Tech’s A.J. Kirby-Jones was a second-team pick and Murray State’s Wes Cunningham was a third-team selection.
Oberacker set the OVC single-season record with 108 hits in 2010.
Kirby-Jones tied the OVC single-season record with 26 home runs this spring.
Cunningham, the 2010 OVC Player of the Year, set league single-season records for RBI (86) and total bases (192).
His 86 ribbies ranked second nationally.
