Local graduate awarded National Merit scholarship Posted: Friday, June 4, 2010 12:13 pm The Press 6.3.10 More than 2,800 winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by colleges and universities were announced by National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Neel N. Patel, of Martin, was awarded the National Merit Emory University Scholarship. Patel listed Medicine as his probable career field. Officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among finalists in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution. This year, 201 higher education institutions are underwriting Merit Scholarship awards through the National Merit Program. Sponsor college and universities include 120 private and 80 public institutions located in 45 states and the District of Columbia. Winners announced are among approximately 8,400 distinguished high school seniors of 2010 who will receive National Merit Scholarships worth $36 million for college undergraduate study. , |
