A Union City man was arrested on a drug-related offense Wednesday afternoon.
Steve Johnson, 45, of 909 East Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Union City, was arrested at 12:40 p.m. and charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, according to a Union City Police Department report.
A police officer called for other patrol units to come to the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and North Clover Street to assist and other officers arrived to find Johnson headed around the side of the Last Word Cafe. An officer reported he saw Johnson go into the backyard at 508 North Clover St. and allegedly drop something into the bed of a truck parked in the backyard before he started back toward police.
In the truck bed, police saw a can of beer and a hole in the bed of the truck. The ground could be seen through the hole and an officer reported he saw an off-white rock-type substance, believed to be crack cocaine, on the ground beneath the hole.
The officer retrieved the substance and also found another piece of a rock-type substance, also believed to be crack cocaine, according to the report.
