2010 SOYBEAN IDOL – David Belote and Karen Saldana, of UT Martin, Sarah Townson, of KF99, Lorrie Jackson, of UT Martin, and Lynette Wagster, of The Weakley County Press and Historical Downtown Martin begin planning the 2010 Soybean Idol.
The Press 6.3.10 The Soybean Idol Planning Committee recently met to prepare for a brand new season of musical trills and thrills.
Soybean Idol, the newest event of the annual Tennessee Soybean Festival, is a singing competition where local talents compete to win the coveted title of Soybean Idol.
David Belote, co-member of the planning committee, believes there will be a larger turn-out for auditions this year.
“We had such a successful first year. We are all looking forward to what this year’s competition has in store,” said Belote.
The preliminary auditions for Soybean Idol will beging on Aug. 7 from 6-8 p.m. at Brandy’s Restaurant in Martin.
Auditions will continue every Saturday in August from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in Virginia Weldon Park.
Semi-finals will be held Sept. 4-5 at UT Martin’s Watkins Auditorium.
The top 10 finalists will compete on the main stage in downtown Martin on Sept. 7 where the Soybean Idol winner will be determined.
The Soybean Idol winner will receive $1,000 and the chance to perform live on the main stage during the Soybean Festival. The runner-up will receive $250.
