ERWIN (AP) — A school system finance director has resigned after a state audit found $21,000 missing.
Angie Williams resigned effective Tuesday from the Unicoi County School System after being suspended without pay on May 7, reported The Johnson City Press, citing a news release from schools director Denise Brown.
The newspaper said the Tennessee Office of the Comptroller confirmed Tuesday there was an investigation into school system records.
Comptroller’s spokesman Blake Fontenay said he couldn’t provide details because the probe was still active.
The news release from Brown, however, stated a preliminary report found indication of “misspent and unauthorized disbursement of funds.”
