More News about our President’s wives
President Taft had a wife named Nellie. She was very outgoing and rather demanding. One of Nellie’s chief concerns was presidential transportation.Carriages simply would not do any longer. She petitioned Congress for an automobile appropriation, and their less-than-generous response led her to make a groundbreaking decision. Nellie approached Pierce-Arrow with the request.
They gave in with the provision that they be allowed to advertise the fact that Pierce-Arrow were the official automobiles of the White House.
No first lady before Nellie would’ve dared to go there, but Mrs. Taft wanted those beautiful rides.Pierce-Arrow got the rights to ensnare buyers with copy that advertised their executive connections.
