The University of Tennessee at Martin’s Office of Extended Campus and Online Studies in partnership with Jackson State Community College’s Office of Continuing Education and Workforce Development are offering the pharmacy technician program from 6-9:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 22-Aug. 10.
The program will be offered on the JSCC campus.
The cost is $999, including textbooks and lab supplies.
The comprehensive 50-hour course will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Technicians work in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies and other health care settings, working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
Course content includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Students will learn dosage calculations, intravenous flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement.
