UT gals attain ‘Super’ status

KNOXVILLE (AP) — The University of Tennessee softball team is headed to the NCAA Super Regionals for the first time since 2007 after a win over the Louisville Cardinals.
The 3-1 win Sunday sends Tennessee on to Ann Arbor, Mich., where they will face the Michigan Wolverines.
The time and date of the game has not been announced.
The Cards scored early and held on, forcing the Lady Vols to strand 16 before two hits and two errors allowed Tennessee to break a 1-1 tie in the ninth.
Tennessee’s Lauren Gibson led off the top of the ninth with a double.
Pinch runner Whitney Hammond entered the game and scored on Nicole Kajitani’s RBI single to make it a 2-1 game.
Erinn Webb reached on a Cardinal throwing error which sent Kajitani to third, a second error on the play allowed her to score.
Cat Hosfield earned the victory, while Trinity Christian Academy product Ivy Renfroe pitched a perfect ninth to earn her fourth career save.
