A Union City woman was charged with two offenses after a dog allegedly bit a postal worker a few days ago.
Virginia Lee Smith, 36, of 215 West College St., Union City, was issued citations May 14 charging her with harboring a vicious animal and no proof of vaccination, according to a Union City Police Department report released today.
Police were summoned about 4 p.m. May 14 to the 200 block of West College Street to investigate a possible dog bite. Post office employee Steve Bing told police he was delivering mail at 215 West College St. when some children opened the door to come out and a dog came running out, with the dog jumping off the porch and trying to bite at him.
According to the report, Bing told police he was hitting the dog with the mail in his hand and the dog bit him on the right hand, drawing blood.
Police said Ms. Smith took the dog to the local animal hospital for a 10-day observation, as required by law.
