Running Reb camps
set for next week

Dates for the 2010 Obion Central “Running Rebels” fundamental day basketball camps have been announced.
The boys’ camp will be held May 24-26, with the girls’ camp set for the following week, May 27-29 at OCCHS. Girls and boys in grades kindergarten through seventh grade are eligible to participate.
Registration, which costs $30, will be done on-site.
The boys’ camp, slated for May 24-26, will begin at 9 a.m. each morning and run through noon.
The girls’ camp, scheduled for May 27-29, will have the same daily times as the girls’ camp.
OCCHS girls’ coach Lyle LaRue will oversee the girls’ camp with Rebels’ coach Bill Kail running the boys’ drills.

Twister boosters
meeting Thursday

The Union City High School Booster Club will meet Thursday evening prior to the spring sports banquet that begins at 6:30.
The purpose of the meeting is to elect new officers for the 2010-2011 school year.
All members and prospective members are encouraged to attend.

W’ridge gal event
goes to scorecard

The team of Cheryl Brundige, Joyce Bell, Novella Little and Linda Lofton combined to shoot a 3-under-par and win the weekly women’s scramble via a scorecard playoff at Wynridge Greens in Troy on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the second-place team of Shelly Stout, Theresa Harbor, Charlotte Hall and Cathy Hall fired a like score.
Wynridge Greens holds its weekly women’s scramble every Tuesday.

FORE links tourney
on slate for June 26

The seventh annual Golf FORE Kids Tournament is set for June 26 at Dyersburg Municipal Golf Course.
Shotgun start is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The tourney consists of 18 holes. Registration includes a golf cart, a goody bag, lunch, snacks and drinks throughout the tournament, as well as door prizes and the chance to win large prizes.
Tigrett and Pennington Inc. is giving away $15,000 if a golfer hits a hole-in-one on No. 15. The prize for hitting a hole-in-one on No. 10 is a 2010 Nissan Sentra made available by Rick Hill Nissan Inc.

UTM’s Gibbs, Williams
named as top athletes

Joe Gibbs and Megan Williams were the top honorees recently at the fifth annual UT Martin Senior Athlete Night.
Gibbs, a four-year starter on the Skyhawk football team, from Brilliant, Ala., was named the Bob Carroll Male Athlete of the Year, while Williams a four-year starter on the Skyhawk softball team was named the Bettye Giles Female Athlete of the Year.
Gibbs did not allow a single sack the past two seasons.
This season, Williams leads the Ohio Valley Conference in six offensive categories and has led her team to the regular-season conference championship.
