The public is invited to view the display windows that Reelfoot Area Smocking Arts Guild Association members have furnished in the entryway of the Obion County Public Library at 1221 East Reelfoot Ave. in Union City. The display was provided to inspire enthusiasm for a variety of needlework techniques and to illustrate the kind of project endeavors future chapter SAGA meetings might include.
Membership in SAGA, a national non-profit organization, is easy and provides numerous benefits including unique access to sewing ideas, techniques, kits, workshops and the official SAGA website, discounts at sewing arts and fabric stores and a subscription to the SAGA print publication. National dues are $30 per year.
Hand sewing and needle arts enthusiasts of all skill levels are invited to attend local meetings, which are held at the library at 1 p.m. the third Thursday of each month, and are encouraged to bring their needlework and sewing projects for show-and-tell. A meeting is set for Thursday. Guests and new members are always welcome.
For further information, call Sarah Moss at (731) 782-3303 or Mary Thorpe at 885-1137. Visit the SAGA website at www.smocking.org.
