An Obion woman was injured Monday evening when her car collided with a tractor-trailer rig in the 1800 block of West Reelfoot Avenue, just north of Phebus Lane, in Union City.
Linda G. Cruce, 67, of 708 North Seventh St., Obion, was transported by ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City following a crash that occurred about 5:12 p.m., according to a Union City Police Department report.
Ms. Cruce was the driver of a 1997 Mazda that struck the rear of a 2000 Peterbilt 379 tractor-trailer rig driven by Neven C. Barnett, 54, of 602 South Main St., Troy.
A witness told police that a small green car was in front of the semi rig and suddenly stopped in the lane of traffic, at which time Ms. Cruce’s vehicle struck the rear of the semi. The witness said it appeared Ms. Cruce was attempting to swerve to the right lane to avoid the accident, but the front of her vehicle hit the back of the semi.
The witness and Barnett both told police that the female driver of the green car that allegedly caused the wreck made a U-turn and left the area, traveling north on West Reelfoot Avenue (Highway 51), according to the report.
Police said no citation was issued as the result of no information being available about the person who left the scene.
