The Messenger has learned of the death of Jauanita (Crossno) Newton, 65, of Porterville, Calif., mother of David Newton of Union City, who died May 5, 2010, at the home of her daughter, Amy Hernandez of Porterville.
Graveside services were 2 p.m. Sunday at Gardner Cemetery in Weakley County, with the Rev. Bob Conley officiating and Murphy Funeral Home in Martin in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Mickey McClure, Brad Wilson, Norris Newton and Bernice Shands.
She was born Feb. 25, 1945, in Martin, daughter of the late Chester M. and Willie Grace (Stewart) Crossno. She was a nurse and had been employed at VanAyer Manor in Martin for 37 years. She was a graduate of the former Martin High School and was a member of Adams Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors also include her sister, Barbara Ann Henry of Martin; and five grandchildren, Katie Edmaiston, Ethan Vancleave, Chase Vancleave, Braden Newton and Parker Newton.
