WCSD investigates weekend shootings
Two unrelated “accidental” shootings are the cause of investigations by the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department.
According to a press release issued by the department, the first incident was reported at 815 Rock McClain Rd. near Dresden on Saturday.
Chad Thornton of Union City was reportedly shot in the chest after a 22 rifle that was being handled by his girlfriend and her son accidently discharge, according to the report.
Thornton was treated at Volunteer Community Hospital before being transported by helicopter to Jackson General Hospital.
A second incident was reported on Sunday at 1536 Hwy. 431 between Martin and Union City.
According to the release, Darry Meaner accidently shot himself in the leg with a .45-caliber pistol while he was trying to unload the weapon. Meaner was transported from the Air Evac Lifeteam base in Martin by helicopter to Jackson General Hospital.
Anyone with information regarding the two incidents is asked to the WCSD at 364-5454.
