The staff and advisory board of the Exchange Club Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse serving Weakley and Obion counties would like to thank everyone who had a hand in helping make the 6th Annual Taste of Weakley and Obion Counties Gala and Auction a huge success this year.
With your help, the organization received nearly $17,000 to keep much-needed programs in place for the non-profit center.
This year’s theme was “Kidstock-Peace, Love and Happy Children.” The gala and auction was held April 24 at Volunteer Distributing Co. Inc. in Dresden. Guests dug deep into their closets to pose as true children of the historic “Woodstock” event held in the 60s.
A child is abused every seven seconds in this nation. There are more than 100 reports of child abuse in Tennessee every day. We are blessed to have our services continue to grow to meet those challenges, but we cannot do it without you. We served more than 400 individuals last year when they needed it most. You truly are making a difference in your communities when you help support us with the largest fundraiser for this center each year.
A special thank you is offered to Randy Gregory and Volunteer Distributing Co. Inc. for opening your business to us each year as a sponsor of the “Taste of Weakley and Obion Counties.”
Every year, we seek out the help of area restaurants in the hopes they will help feed our guests at the event. This year was no exception as they have given their time and energy to make the “Taste of Weakley and Obion Counties” a success. This event would not be possible without their willingness to help.
To Applebee’s of Union City; Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Union City; Myrtle Mae’s Cakes of Martin; Sodexo Campus Services of Martin; Volunteer Distributing Co., Inc. of Dresden; Brandy’s Restaurant in Martin; Hunt Brothers Pizza of Union City and Martin; Domino’s Pizza of Martin; La Cabana of Martin/Dresden; Joe’s Steakhouse of Union City; Pepsi Mid America of Paris; Big Joe’s Pizza of Greenfield; Veranda Italian Restaurant of Martin; Parnell’s Grill of Martin; Higher Ground Coffee Co. of Union City; The Sweet Tooth of Troy and Tastefully Simple, Elaine Knight of Martin, thank you all for your food, services and time. This wouldn’t be a “taste” without you and through your support, the guests enjoyed more than just a taste.
A special thank you also goes out to First Choice Rentals of Dresden for your continuous support of the event as well as Dresden Cable Co. and Frontier Communications for helping set up for the event.
To all of the fraternities and sororities that helped provide donation baskets for our silent auction, we say thank you. The Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity of the University of Tennessee at Martin works throughout the year helping our center be able to meet the needs of the communities we serve. Thank you for that support.
Each year, student volunteers and board members work to gather as many auction items as possible for the silent and live auctions that take place at the gala.
This year, we had more than 150 donors of items, which included individuals and businesses. Thank you for all of your contributions.
A special thank you to Ellen Blinder of Gulf Coast Couture in Daphne, Ala. for the donation of $6,500 in items for the event.
Thank you to Final Flight Outfitters, Martin Medical Group, Phi Sigma Kappa, Mid-Town Wine and Spirits, Ellen Blinder and MTD Products for your live auction donation items.
Without our table sponsors, this event would not be possible. To Volunteer Distributing Co., Volunteer Community Hospital, MTD Products, Inc., E.W. James and Sons, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., Weakley County Municipal Electric System, the City of Martin, Fuller Partners Real Estate, Rountree Business Equipment, Thomas and Diane Johnson and Friends, Lisa Beam and Friends, Sammy Liles and Friends, Reelfoot Bank of Martin, First State Bank of Martin, Doyle Sims and Sons Trucking and the REED Center, thank you for sponsorships. We hope to see you again next year!
Thank you to our emcee, Misty Menees; our DJ, John Abel and our auctioneer, Marvin Alexander for your help. We would also like to thank Loren Dean, Miss Tennessee Soybean Festival, for her entertainment and auction assistance.
We want to congratulate this year’s winners for Best Décor and Best Taste. Each year, our guests choose who they think has the best decorated set-up as well as which vendor offered the best taste.
This year’s Best Décor recipient was Big Joe’s Pizza of Greenfield.
The votes for Best Taste were extremely close this year. For the second year in a row, the Veranda Italian Restaurant claimed the Best Taste category. We wanted to make a special mention for the runners up in that category this year, newcomer to the gala – Parnell’s Grill of Martin and continued supporter – Sodexo, who also tickled our guests’ taste buds.
Thank you once again to all who helped make this annual event successful. Thank you all for your continued support of our center and programs.
