Lael Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Union City held the regular monthly meeting at the church’s family life center recently.
Faye Passmore, president of the class, opened the meeting with prayer. She then asked for the names of those who needed prayer, those who are bereaved and those who are sick. Jean Eaker led in prayer. The group then repeated the Pledge of Faith. Mrs. Passmore addressed old or new business and the group gave a donation to youth who will be going on a trip to Centrifuge Camp this summer.
Dot Capps gave the devotional taken from Matthew 7:2 that was titled “Get Out of the Judgment Seat.” The message was that Christians will be judged in the same way they judge others. No one knows why certain things happen to people, but people of faith should never judge. Those who haven’t walked in someone else’s shoes are not to judge them.
Ms. Eaker noted that the week of July 2-8 will be Missionary Week of Prayer. The class will be sending cards to one of the local congregation’s missionaries who are serving in the “Last Frontier.”
Joyce Stephens had refreshments of chocolate pie, trail mix, cheese straws and drinks.
Those present were Pat Cunningham, Grace Killion, Lena Mai Pruitt, Edna McIntosh, Jessie White, Ms. Eaker, Mrs. Stephens, Ms. Capps, Dorothy Rasberry, Bobbie Adams and Mrs. Passmore.
The next meeting will be June 15, with Ms. Rasberry as hostess.
