When is the last time you were able to take a trip around the world without leaving your chair? The David Johnson Chorus offers you that opportunity in their 2010 Spring Concert – An International Celebration.
Each half of the show will be introduced with familiar American music. But after that, be prepared to leave the USA and embark on a journey. There will be stops in Africa, Latin America, France, England, Sweden, Italy and Israel.
From Africa will come the story of the slave ship Amistad, the first slave ship granted freedom by the U.S. Supreme Court.
“Dry Your Tears, Afrika” is written by John Williams and featured in the Steven Spielberg film, “Amistad,” which tells the story of the slave ship.
From Sweden will come a medley of music by ABBA, rediscovered by new generations thanks to “Mama Mia!”
“When You Believe” tells the story of the children of Israel in Egyptian bondage.
Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli made a hit with their recording of “The Prayer.” It’s Italian refrain makes the most of that rich language.
You will not want to miss hearing the dramatic medley from “Phantom of the Opera” by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
And from France comes Victor Hugo’s story of the tragic hero Jean Valjean in “Les Miserable.”
The medley from the musical by the same time is some of the most dramatic music you will ever hear.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear a variety of music from across the globe.
Join The David Johnson Chorus on May 22 at 7:00 pm in Dresden. The concert will be at the Dresden Elementary School Multi-Purpose Room with a reception following.
Tickets will be $10 for adults; children and students will be admitted free-of-charge. No advance tickets will be sold.
