Ben White runs during the Region 7A-AA meet on Thursday.
The Twister sprinter is set to take part in four races at the Memphis-hosted event after the running finals of the Region 7A-AA meet on Thursday in Dyersburg.
Williams advanced to the sectional by finishing second in both the 100- and 400-meter dashes and third in the 200-meter race.
Williams is also a part of Union City’s 400-meter relay squad that claimed fourth on Thursday along with Jorge Guerri, Keontre Murrell and Kendrick Price.
The top four finishers at the regional level advanced to the sectional.
Overall, the Union City boys finished fourth — 12 points back of third-place Dyersburg — in the team standings with 50 tallies. Ripley (178 points) was first. The UC girls were 10th out of 15 teams with many of their regulars not competing due to the school’s District 14A Tournament softball game.
On the boys’ side, Williams ran the 100-meter in 11 seconds flat, while he finished the 200-meter dash in 22.5 seconds. Williams’ 400-meter time was 52.1 ticks.
The 400-meter relay team ran the circuit in 45.3 seconds.
The top two finishers from the sectional automatically advance to the Class A-AA State Track Meet, while two other wild-card competitors from throughout the state will complete the field.
The Twister boys’ foursome that advanced on Thursday joins Chase Bowling (discus) and Antuwan Powell (shot put) as members of the local contingent competing at sectionals.
One Lady Twister relay team will also be on the bus to Memphis.
The one-mile hand-off running team of Chloe Smithson, Destiny Powers, Sami Moble and Brandy Henry claimed fourth in the event with a time of 5:02 to become the final 7A-AA entry to qualify for the sectional meet.
Otherwise, Daniel Wil-liamson scored points for the Twister boys with an eighth-place finish in the one-mile, while Smithson was sixth in the same event on the girls’ side.
The UC boys’ 2-mile relay team comprised of Williamson, Brett Gore, Benjamin White and Guerri earned a sixth-place finish.
