Area growers plan summer market
Fresh produce growers of the Weakley County Farmers Market recently met to discuss their crops and the upcoming market season.
After hearing from Weakley County Agricultural Extension Agent, Jeff Lannom, to discuss new growing techniques, the local growers voted to officially open the Weakley County Farmers Market on Saturday, June 19 at 8 a.m.
As is tradition, local produce farmers will display their products at the Market behind the C.E. Weldon Public Library in Martin. They plan to sell their goods to the public every Saturday beginning June 19 at 8 a.m. and on Mondays and Wednesdays at beginning at 2 p.m. until they run out of fresh produce.
Every Saturday morning during Farmers Market season, each grower donates produce to a raffle basket that is given away to one lucky customer. All produce sold at the market is grown locally within a 20 mile radius. All Weakley County growers, small and large, are welcome to participate in the Market. There is a $2 participation fee per market day. For more information, call Rich Gallagher at (731) 332-1910.
