Round and round the bases the Yellowjackets raced until they’d piled up an easy 15-3 victory over the Union City Tornadoes in the District 14-A Tournament Tuesday in Union City.
With the win, the Jackets will play for the district title at 4:30 today (Thursday) in Union City. The championship game will be a rematch as the Tornadoes defeated Halls 7-3 in action Wednesday afternoon.
The win also gives the Greenfield baseball team a berth in the Region 7-A Tournament semifinals to be held on Monday.
It was Union City taking a quick 2-0 lead in their Tuesday match, but the Jackets answered immediately and repeatedly.
Greenfield cut its deficit in half with a run in the bottom of the first, then took advantage of UC miscues to plate four runs in the second and five runs each in the third and fourth innings in building an insurmountable lead.
Tony Robinson, Dalton Potts and Hunter Crouse each had three hits in the win. Robinson drove in six runs, while Potts and Crouse each scored three in the Jackets’ 15-3 win.
