Early errors put the Dresden Lions in a hole they could not climb out of resulting in an 11-1 season-ending loss to the Clarksburg Rockets in the District 13-A Baseball Tournament Tuesday in Huntingdon.
“We had a couple of errors that got us behind. It’s never fun to try to come back,” DHS head coach Scott Killebrew said.
The errors, coupled with base hits, allowed the Rockets to plate two runs in the first inning. Clarksburg threatened in the second and third innings, stranding runners in scoring position as the score stayed 2-0.
Dresden got a run back in the third when Gatlin Hatchel singled and scored on a Daniel Harris double to the wall for a 2-1 score.
Clarksburg padded its lead with five runs in the fourth. Dresden right fielder Alex Robinson brought an end to the inning with a diving, juggling catch that stranded Rocket runners at first and third.
“Give Clarksburg credit where credit is due, they just beat us. We let the big inning come back and bite us,” Killebrew said.
The Rockets put the 10-run rule into effect with four runs in the fifth inning to advance in the tourney with the 11-1 win.
The game was the final one in a Dresden uniform for seniors Alex Robinson, Jay Wainscott and Daniel Janes.
