A Union City man was arrested Monday afternoon on a trio of methamphetamine-related charges.
John Anthony Murphy, 39, of 305 West Gibbs St., Apt. E, was arrested at 4 p.m. at his residence and charged with promotion of manufacture of meth, initiating the process to manufacture meth and possession of anhydrous ammonia, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Last week, after locating a vehicle wanted for seizure in a manufacturing-related case, police received a tip that the vehicle was located at 305 West Gibbs St. and was allegedly hidden in the backyard. Police said the residents were listed in the Tennessee Methamphetamine Intelligence System for alleged involvement in purchasing pseudoephedrine at multiple locations for a total of 60-plus grams over several months — resulting in a search warrant being issued.
Police allegedly recovered evidence of manufacturing activity in a trash can just outside the kitchen area of the home.
According to the report, Murphy called police Thursday and claimed he was scared and had run to Arkansas. He also allegedly claimed the other occupant of the home was not involved in the activity.
Police located Murphy at the residence Monday and reported he apparently was attempting to move out. He was taken into custody since he did not come to see a police investigator as allegedly promised during the phone conversation Thursday.
