There wasn’t much more Dresden Lady Lion Courtney McMillin could do to carry her team to a District 13-A Tournament win.
The DHS senior pitched a perfect game and was a double shy of batting for the cycle during her team’s 10-0 five-inning win over the visiting Bruceton Lady Tigers on Thursday.
With the win, the Lady Lions will next play at 4 this afternoon (Tuesday) at West Carroll High School in Atwood in a game pushed back a day due to rain.
It was teammate Jessica Jones who reached via a Lady Tiger error and later crossed home with the game’s first and only necessary run. The inning wasn’t over though, as McMillin legged out an inside-the-park home run. Dresden also got a run when Catherine VanDyke was hit by pitch with all the bags full. Junior Jesica Parsley brought home two runs with her single as the Lady Lion lead stretched to 6-0.
That score held until the fourth inning when Parsley walked and later scored on a passed ball. McMillin ripped a single and came home on an error for an 8-0 Dresden advantage.
Needing two runs in the bottom of the fifth to bring the 10-run mercy rule into effect, the Lady Lions got the job done. After Jones reached on a fielder’s choice and scored, McMillin brought the game to an end with her RBI triple.
