Two people — including a Union City man — are recovering from gunshots wounds received in separate incidents over the weekend in Weakley County.
Chad Thornton of Union City was shot in the chest after a .22 rifle being handled by his girlfriend and her son accidentally discharged Saturday at 815 Rock McClain Road near Dresden.
Thornton was treated at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin before being flown by helicopter to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, according to Weakley County Sheriff’s Department investigator Randall McGowan.
Sunday, Darry Meaner of 1536 Highway 431, located between Martin and Union City, accidentally shot himself in the leg with a .45 caliber pistol while trying to unload the weapon, McGowan reported.
Meaner was flown from the Air Evac Lifeteam base in Martin to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital for treatment.
McGowan said anyone who has any additional information about these incidents is asked to call the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department at (731) 364-5454.
