Weakley County to celebrate National Nursing Home Week
Long-term care facilities across Tennessee, including Weakley County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, are planning events in honor of National Nursing Home Week, which begins on Mother’s Day, May 9, continues through May 15.
Gov. Phil Bredesen has also proclaimed May 9-15 Nursing Home Week in Tennessee. Ion his proclamation, the governor encouraged citizens to honor elderly and disabled patients by observing Nursing Home Week.
The 2010 National Nursing Home Week theme, “Enriching Every Day,” recognizes the ways patients, caregivers and volunteers alike enrich not only one another’s lives but the communities around them through the relationships they build and the dedication they display each day. “The bonds that develop between our patients and caregivers help us promote not only physical healing, but an enrichment of the mind the spirit,” said David McBride, administrator at Weakley County Rehab and Nursing Center. “We hope family members and other visitors will come to our facility and be a part of the loving environment we create every day.”
In celebration of National Nursing Home Week, there are many events scheduled at Weakley County Rehab and Nursing Center, including: a Mother’s Day tea, a balloon release, a cookout, baseball, soccer, basketball, football and a tailgate party on Friday.
National Nursing Home Week is an annual event celebrating the quality care provided by the nation’s long-term care facilities. It is sponsored by the American health Care Association (AHCA) and the Tennessee Health Care Association (THCA), a nonprofit organization whose members include long-term care facilities located throughout the state. Weakley County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is a 136-bed member facility located in Dresden.
