The Omicron Chapter of ADK, an International Honorary Sorority for Women Educators, met Thursday, April 22 at Brandy’s Restaurant in Martin for its last meeting before installing new officers for the 2010-2012 term.
Ms. Kristy Jolley, president, led the meeting. The customary altruistic project was more special this month as the group presented the Project S.A.V.E international effort with a contribution in honor of Mrs. Virginia Parrish who is a 50 year ADK member. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Komen for the Cure are still our annual international altruistic projects. Each receives a yearly contribution of $30,000 from ADK.
In November 2009, ADK and Veterans Vietnam Restoration joined forces for a one-time project called S.A.V.E. in which a five-room school building would be built in a very poor rural area in Vietnam. ADK is involved all year round in a myriad of endeavors in our local, state, national, regional and International programs and altruistic events. The group applauded Ms. Jolley’s leadership for the last two years and pledged to support the new slate of officers. The group will meet at Brandy’s May 13 for the installation of new officers.
