PIGEON FORGE (AP) — This Tennessee town loves celebrating its favorite daughter, Dolly Parton, but this spring parade is a bit more special than usual. Call it a silver anniversary.
The Dolly Parton 25th Anniversary Homecoming Parade is Friday. This year also is the 25th anniversary for the Dollywood theme park — Tennessee’s most visited tourist attraction and the biggest employer locally each season.
Parton, who grew up a few miles from Pigeon Forge, will be on her own float in the parade, the theme of which is “Celebrate the Dreamer in You.”
The 2 1/2-mile parade goes from Traffic Light 6 to Traffic Light 3 in the tourist town.
Leon Downey of the Pigeon Forge Department of Tourism says it’s the town’s way to publicly thank the entertainer.
