Greenfield man beaten outside UC convenience store

A Weakley County man sustained extensive injuries early Monday during an altercation outside a Union City convenience store.
Jared Grant Taylor, 20, of 311 Stafford Store Road, Greenfield, was injured in an incident that occurred sometime between about 5:20 a.m. and shortly before 6 a.m. in the gravel area on the southeast side of Little General at 2129 East Reelfoot Ave., according to a Union City Police Department report.
Taylor told police he had gone there to help a friend who was meeting some men who allegedly had stolen from him. He said when he arrived there, eight men were beating up his friend and he tried to stop them, at which point they started beating him with a tire tool and their fists, as well as kicking him.
Taylor drove to his parents’ home in Greenfield and they took him to the emergency room at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. He sustained numerous fractures, a concussion and head injuries and was slated to be transferred to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital for treatment, according to the police report.
The incident remains under investigation by Union City police.
