Erma Lee Covington, 72, of Brownsville died May 1, 2010, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was the mother of Leonard “Buzzard” Covington of Union City.
Services will be Wednesday at noon at Macedonia Baptist Church in Brownsville. Interment will follow in Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Brownsville.
Visitation will be 3-6 this evening at Rawls Funeral Home in Brownsville and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the hour of services at Macedonia Baptist Church.
Mrs. Covington was born Jan. 28, 1935, in Haywood County, daughter of the late Robert and Ophelia (Newbern) Austin. She was the widow of Robert Earl Covington.
She is survived by two other sons and her daughter-in-law, Melvin Covington of Brownsville and the Rev. Nathan and Veronica Covington of Altus, Okla.; eight daughters and two sons-in-law, Emma Covington, Wilma Covington, Maxine Covington, Claudette and Alvin Fuqua and Margaret and Jackie Cunningham, all of Brownsville, Audrey Covington and Patricia Covington, both of Memphis, and Lottye Covington of Nashville; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, William and Eula Austin and Nathaniel and Patricia Austin, all of Lafayette, Ind., Charlie and Claudia Austin of Richmond, Ind., and Aubrey Austin of Germany; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Bettye and John Monroe of Jefferson, Ind., Martha Bond of Decatur, Ill., and Charlene and Walter Jones of Saginaw, Mich.; eight sisters-in-law and five brothers-in-law; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
