CHATTANOOGA (AP) — The city of Chattanooga is offering a chance for people with disabilities to learn basic rock climbing skills.
Experts say it also offers participants an opportunity to socialize with peers.
The Parks and Recreation Department program began last year. The agency joined with Urban Rocks Gym to open up the activity to people with cognitive and physical disabilities.
Recreational therapist Lizzy Check says the five-week program starts out with simpler goals, maybe getting 2 feet off the ground, and works up to 10 or 15 feet on up to the top.
