One driver possibly sustained injuries in a two-vehicle crash Sunday evening at Everett Boulevard and West Main Street in Union City.
Dennis J. Dones, 53, of 115 East Wellington St., Hickman, Ky., was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City for treatment of possible injuries in an accident that occurred about 6:40 p.m., according to a Union City Police Department report.
Dones’ 1994 Mercury GM collided with a 2006 Mazda 6 driven by Yogesh G. Patel, 52, of 898 Eastwood Drive, Fulton, who was not reported injured.
Police reported Patel was southbound on Everett Boulevard and apparently failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of Everett and West Main Street, causing Dones’ vehicle to strike the driver’s side of Patel’s vehicle. Patel told police he thought the red light had changed and he pulled into Dones’ path, causing the accident, according to the report.
Both vehicles were reported to have sustained severe damage.
Patel was charged with a red light violation.
Union City police told The Messenger that Sunday’s accident marks the third accident with injuries at the busy Everett Boulevard and West Main Street intersection within the last three or four weeks — since the traffic cameras at the intersection were deactivated. Negotiations are currently under way with another company to possibly return the red light cameras to operation.
