Rowe pleads not guilty to additional charges
A former Sharon man has pleaded not guilty to seven additional indictments in Illinois.
Robert Rowe, 44, faced an original charge of aggravated DUI after he hit a semi head on in Iroquois County, Illinois in August 2008. The accident resulted in the death of his passenger and stepson, 18-year-old Justin Sanders.
Rowe was accused of being intoxicated during the incident. Earlier this month, an Illinois grand jury returned seven additional indictments against Rowe.
According to the indictments, Rowe was allegedly under the influence of marijuana, oxycodone, cocaine and other drugs during the incident. During a court appearance this week in Illinois, Rowe’s attorney entered a “not guilty” plea on his client’s behalf for the new charges. The public defender also requested a jury trial. The attorneys in the case now have 45 days to provide evidence they plan to present during the trial.
The next court date is set for May 27. Rowe is free on bond and could face as much as 14 years in prison for each charge if convicted of the indictments.
