Tennessee Transportation Commissioner Gerald Nicely was among the several speakers at the event. He said the $4.9 million project, when finished, will make the airport one of the major general aviation airports in the state. “It’s clearly an investment of tremendous benefit to Obion County and northwest Tennessee,” he said. The target date for completion of construction is Oct. 31. The airport is managed by a board comprised of Obion and Weakley County officials. Ron Cooper of Southern Machinery Corp. said the project shows what can be accomplished when two governmental bodies work together. “This will benefit all of northwest Tennessee,” Cooper said.
