New Salem FCE Club meets in Simmons home

The New Salem FCE Club met in the home of Marjorie Simmons on April 2 with 10 members and two visitors present.
President Bettie Higgs opened the meeting with the thought of the day “Wherever you do, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine,” – Anthony J. D. Angelo. President Higgs introduced our two visitors, Norma Goad and Gladys Carpenter. Devotion Leader Aileen Edwards gave our devotion. She read a Helen Steiner Rice poem on Friendship and on the Crucifixion of our Lord from Romans 8:30-39 and led in prayer. Song Leader Marjorie Simmons led in singing “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Easter Parade” and happy birthday and Bettie Higgs read a birthday card for Marjorie Simmons and Sylvia Simmons. All read in unison the Club Creed. Secretary Ruby Rogers called the roll with everyone answe4ring by sharing a funny story to make us laugh and also how many brought to give to the Sharon Library. A total of 75 books were given. Sylvia Simmons shared the treasurer’s report and read a thank you note from We Care Ministries for the food we had donated. Old and new business were April is National Library Month, County Council met April 15 at the Farm Bureau Building, C V Units are due May 1 to Maurene Hickman. May is Books for Newborns and May 15 is the Day of the Family and collect for the Cancer Fund at the May meeting. Roll call for May will be bring a photo of yourself and let members guess who it is. Our leader program, given by Mary Elizabeth Bell, was on Arthritis, Taking Care of Your Joints. President Higgs adjourned the meeting by reading “A smile is an inexpensive way to change your looks “ – Charles Gordy.
We enjoyed games with prizes and refreshments provided by the hostess.
The May meeting will be in the home of our new member, Lillian Stoker.
