District champs — The Greenfield Lady Yellowjackets tennis team claimed its third straight district title with a 12-0 regular-season finish. After winning the District 14 regular season title in 2008 and 2009, GHS claimed the District 13 crown in 2010.
For the third consecutive season, the Greenfield Lady Yellowjackets have stormed through their district competition to claim the regular-season crown.
Playing in District 13 A-AA for the first time due to redistricting by the TSSAA, the Lady Jackets kept up their winning ways against Camden, Huntingdon and Milan. Greenfield claimed its first two regular-season titles competing in 2008 and 2009 in District 14 A-AA. The Lady Jacket team swept all its regular season competition for a 12-0 overall record, the second consecutive season it has finished with a 12-0 mark.
The Lady Jacket tennis program is in its fifth year and has enjoyed a winning season each year.  The five-year record is 53-10 with the past three years being very productive.  The GHS netters have been nearly perfect from 2008-10 with regular season records of 12-1, 12-0, and 12-0.
“We are very excited and proud that our team has won the District 13 A-AA title this season.  One of the goals each season is to be competitive in the district. To win three district titles back to back to back in any sport is a great accomplishment and does not happen very often. A ‘three-peat’ is something we can be very proud of,” GHS tennis coach Teresa McCall said.
The Lady Jackets actually clinched the District 13 A-AA team title on April 1 with its second win over Milan. Greenfield will now advance to regional team competition where it will face the winner from District 14 A-AA for a sectional berth. The region championship match will be played in early May.
“We are especially proud of our five starters which include four seniors — Katie McCall, Mallory Robinson, Haley Perkins and Meagan Porter.  The fifth starter is freshman Emily Allen. These girls deserve all the credit for our team’s success this season,” GHS coach Bill McCall noted.
Of the 18 players on the roster, 11 are freshmen or eighth-graders who gained valuable experience playing in exhibition matches.
“We hope that the success of this season will inspire these young girls to work extra hard so that they may improve quickly and be able to help us next season,” Teresa McCall added.
