DVD series offered
“The Blessed Life” DVD series with Robert Morris as the instructor will be offered on Wednesday nights at 7, beginning next Wednesday at Union City First Assembly of God at 1810 Pleasant Valley Ave. Following the teaching session, there will be a  discussion/Q&A format, facilitated by the Rev. Tommy Hall, who is pastor of the church.
This study will help people achieve guaranteed financial results, a spokesman said. A nursery will be provided. For more information about church programs, go to www.unioncityfirstag.com

‘Café’ to be open
The next Soul Food Café at Exchange Street Church of Christ in Union City is scheduled for Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
The meal is free to everyone and the menu will include  fried chicken, mashed potatoes, whole kernel corn, cole slaw, salad and dessert.
A Back to School Drive is under way at the church. In May the supplies to bring are glue sticks and 24-count crayons. All supplies gathered will be given to needy children in August.
“Thanks to everyone who participated in the ‘Mission Haiti’ effort,” a spokesman said. “Several hundred pounds of beans and rice were collected with the help of Soul Food Café guests, the Obion County schools and several others in the community.”

Cemetery meeting set
The Mount Manuel Cemetery Association will meet for the annual session at the church of Highway 22 near Union City Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
All who are interested in the preservation of the cemetery are urged to attend, according to a spokesman.
To celebrate anniversary
Members of Friendship Freewill Baptist Church at 3401 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Union City will host an anniversary celebration honoring their pastor and “first lady,” the Rev. Phillip Sanders and his wife, Willie Mae Sanders, Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Anthony Johnson and his congregation from Clinton, Ky.
A meal will be served at 1:30 p.m.
The community is invited to join the church family for this special celebration, a spokesman said.

Decoration Day planned
Sunday will be Decoration Day at Obion Chapel Cemetery. The special day will begin with Sunday school at 10 at Obion Chapel United Methodist Church. Morning worship will follow at 11, with the pastor, the Rev. Terry English, bringing the message. A fellowship meal will follow and the cemetery board meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m.
Those wishing to make donations to the cemetery trust fund may send them, under that heading, to Brenda Baker at 1077 Board Road, Obion, TN 38240.

Concert set at St. James
A classical operatic vocal concert is planned for Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. James’ Episcopal Church at 422 East Church St. in Union City. Daniel Milam and Scott Pullen will be featured.
The Murray (Ky.) State University vocal students will be presenting classical and operatic selections in the hour-long program, accompanied by E.B. Wright on the organ.
There is no admission charge, but a love offering will be accepted to help fund travel expenses for the students’ summer studies at prestigious opera institutes, which will supplement their regular classroom work.
The public is invited to attend.

‘Spring Fling’ set
Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, located at 720 East College St. in Union City, will host ‘Spring Fling” to help support the congregation’s food bank program.
Arm bands will be sold for $5 and this will entitle the wearer to enjoy water slides, inflatable jumpers, games, and other fun.
The group will also offer fish plates, barbecue, hot dogs and popcorn for sale.
The food and fun for all ages will be staged Saturday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at the church.
The Rev. A.E. McCadney is pastor.

Yard sale planned
There will be a multi-family yard sale with clothing, furniture, toys, children’s items, small appliances, craft supplies and more Saturday beginning at 7 a.m. at Greater Bethel Church of God in Christ at 805 East Gibbs St. in Union City.
Proceeds will go to the church’s youth group to support projects.
Cars will also be washed at no charge during the event.

Decoration Day slated
Mount Olive Baptist Church in the Crystal community will have Decoration Day Sunday. Worship services will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a meal at 12:30 and a meeting of the cemetery committee at 1:30.
The community is invited to attend.

‘Pride Day’ slated
Samburg Assembly of God will host “Samburg Community Pride Day” in memory of A.J. Pride Saturday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Samburg’s ballpark. In the event of rain, activities will be moved to the church’s activity building.
Those attending the event, which will feature a free fish fry, games for all ages and a jump house, plus a gospel singing program from 2-5 p.m. with The Smith Family Trio and local talent, are reminded to bring lawn chairs.

Singing planned
The monthly gospel singing at Bethel Baptist Church on Bethel Church Road near Union City will be Saturday from 5-7 p.m. A bring-a-dish fellowship meal will follow and the community is invited to attend.
